How I Took 31 Trips, 65 Flights, and Traveled 95,279 Miles in 1 Year

This week marks the 1 year anniversary of my “travel binge.”  When I began this journey, I felt a little lost and depressed. I needed a change of scenery. When I booked a flight to see my old friend Laura in Dallas last year, I didn’t expect it to turn into this.  Being in a new location, however, and spending time with an old friend, did wonders for me! When I returned to Boston, however, many of my same feelings of drifting returned.  So, I booked more flights… and more. In essence… Read More

iPhoneography Photos From My Travels, 2013 – Second Half

One year of EXTREME travel complete.  I went through a transformation this year and decided to use the flexible (not necessarily free) time my PhD program afforded me to see the country.  I’ve been lucky.  Met amazing people.  Had great conversations and experiences.  Filled my soul. I’ve been traveling a LOT so far this year.  Some of these trips have been for conferences, and speaking/consultation engagements, but some of them have been just for fun.  One of the great parts about being a PhD student is that I have the flexibility to work from almost anywhere in the world.  Life is good.  I’ll go anywhere jetBlue flies and I have a couch to crash on! 😉 I wanted to pause here in the middle of my travels to share some of my favorite pictures.  Below you will find… Read More

Excited to Launch TheClownNoseProject.com

I’m launching a fun little experiment I call The Clown Nose Project! It’s a simple project trying to spread a little fun and joy. By harnessing the power of the internet, perhaps I could get a small army of clown-nose-armed people (which I refer to as “Clown Nosers”) to give out clown noses to unsuspecting people and take pictures or videos of them wearing them. We can post them… Read More

The Phd/Life Journey: A Beautiful Sense of Tumultuous Calm

I decided to take a departure from my usual blog posts about presentations, social media, and student learning and development to reflect on the journey I’ve been taking for two full years now… that of a PhD student.  For those of us privileged enough to undertake doctoral study full time, it presents an amazing opportunity for self-reflection, self-renewal, and often a time for some self-doubt as well.  I recently had to introduce myself at the start of a class as a “third year PhD student,” which got me to thinking about how… Read More
