Why I’m Taking A Break From Blogging For The Summer…

So, I’ve decided to take a break from blogging for the summer. Many of you that follow my blog know that I’ve been a fairly prolific blogger these past two years. I’ve managed to keep an aggressive pace, posting multiple times per week (229 times in 2015 and 67 so far in 2016). But the time has come for me to step away for a brief hiatus.

The reasons for doing this are many. I recently finished my PhD and started working full timed it requires my full attention and focus right now. I am also writing multiple book chapters based on my research on and passion for students and technology. Layered on top of that, I just moved to a new city. Chicago is full of wonderful restaurants and museums to explore and I have new friend groups to establish. Change has always excited me, and I want to make sure I’m diving into this transition head-first.

I am also pausing my blog because I want to refocus on why I blog. Taking a cue from the students in my research study, taking a break from social media from time-to-time allows one to reset their relationship with it and remember what’s truly important. It’s not about the page views or the recognition (although that’s nice) but it’s really about personal learning, connecting with others, and the mutual sharing and exploration of ideas. The inner Honors student high-achiever in me occasionally loses sight of these goals. A personal flaw that has many benefits, but also many drawbacks. I’m hoping this “cleanse” will help me refocus.

So with that in mind, I hope you will have an amazing summer full of fun, friends, and laughter. I promise to do the same. I’m continuing to speak at colleges, universities, associations, and company meetings, so please feel free to reach out to me! I love connecting with you all.

And on that note… Until we meet again in the fall.

Cheers!
